About
Dr Ryan Kaplan is a Clinical Psychologist and is the Director of the Sydney Body Dysmorphic Disorder & Body Image Clinic. Ryan has extensive experience in the field of body image concerns and BDD, helping people overcome their body image difficulties and start living more meaningful and fulfilling lives. Ryan is also a researcher in BDD and related conditions. His research focuses on furthering our understanding of BDD and improving treatment outcomes.
Ryan is widely regarded as a leader in the field of body dysmorphic disorder in Australia. He provides training and supervision for other psychologists in the treatment of BDD, delivering workshops both in-person and online. Ryan is also a leader in the field of psychological assessment for cosmetic surgery and other procedures, and was a key contributor to the Australian Psychological Society's psychological assessment for cosmetic surgery guidelines.
At the Sydney BDD & Body Image Clinic, we use evidence-based approaches grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). While change does take time, evidence shows that psychological therapy can be helpful in reducing symptoms of BDD, and addressing the underlying psychological and emotional issues.
As well as working with people with BDD, we also provide psychology services to people struggling with other body image issues, including psychological factors associated with overweight/obesity.
